Learning Objectives

Describe the theoretical foundations of ACT and its six core processes (Defusion, Acceptance, Present Moment Awareness, Self-As-Context, Values Clarification, and Committed Action).

Explain the role of art in enhancing psychological flexibility, including how creative expression can facilitate mindfulness, defusion, and values exploration.
Develop measurable, values-aligned goals in collaboration with clients and caregivers, ensuring adherence to BACB ethical standards.
Implement art-based experiential exercises that reinforce ACT principles and promote long-term behavioral change.

Utilize art-based tools and techniques to design interventions that support the development of key ACT processes.

Apply assessment tools such as the Values-Directed Behavior Assessment (VDBA), Family Values Assessment (FVA), My Values Worksheet, and Flexibility Questionnaire (FQ) to inform individualized treatment planning.
Monitor treatment progress by collecting data on client engagement and flexibility, adjusting interventions as needed.

Your instructor
Dr. Natasha Bouchillon, is a scientist-practitioner with over 20 years of professional experience in Fine Art. As a BCBA, Natasha is committed to promoting compassionate, creative behavior analysis that supports others to live more colorful, values-directed lives. Her research and clinical focus are on applications of relational frame theory (RFT), acceptance and commitment training (ACT), and fine art to early intervention programs for children with autism, as well as adult programs focused on clinicians and parents of autistic children.
